As a music teacher, for many years, I have worked with people who have started learning music in their adulthood, and even in their retirement.
I feel that music is the "great discovery" that can become a reality at any time of life. Therefore age is not a disadvantage. The benefits granted by music are just unimaginable.
You may have many reasons to want to play an instrument, they are all valid, and they all fit in the basket. Once you start actually playing and performing, you will start experiencing new sensations, and a new sensibility will emerge, something that has always been there, and you have just discovered it … it means your time with music has arrived, make the best of it and enjoy it.
Of course all this goes together with effort and commitment.
However, you will sense that the time devoted to music will also produce moments of deep joy.
Achieving perfection is important, but only up to a point. More importantly is the quality of that inner perception students develop when playing their instruments. That’s what will make them love music and improve their performance.
All of the above I had in mind when in 2012 with Stanislav Borisov and Nacho Reig, set up a music academy back in the city of Guadalajara, Spain.
Now, my goal in the current project is none other than to let the music live in the heart of each and every one of us, which surely will make us better and happier people.
